Home / School News / This Week @ Journey October 5-9

We had a fantastic week with all our events: Terry Fox Run we reached our goal of $1 per person at our school. We also had record shattered – Nick H. came in at 18:19 breaking the old record by just over a minute. Close on his heals were Kolton E.C. and Ike B. Irina K. and Zoe E. held hands as they worked together to be the first female athletes over the line followed a few seconds later by Moira M. The Tour de Rock Riders pedaled past us as we lined Charters Road to cheer them into Sooke. Chris P., Tyler L. Aleksei G. and Christian Z. all shaved their heads for the cause and between them presented almost $1500 to the riders! Ms. Kiefert’s class raised the most money and will take part in a campfire celebration at our fire pit. Thanks to all the families who sent in donations for these two great causes.

Journey students will be taking part in the Canada wide Student Vote on October 16th. For more information, parents can refer to studentvote.ca. This is an opportunity to learn about our political system and to celebrate democracy. Results will be made available on election day through local media.

Report from Integration Support Teacher, Nam Nguyen:

Hello parents and guardians, October is usually the busy time for gathering and collaborating on IEP’s. All teachers have received IEPs for their students who have one and we will be communicating with parents over any changes that may be needed beginning in November. New IEPs will be completed with parent input over the next few weeks. If you would like a copy of your child’s current IEP or if you have any questions, please contact me at 250-642-5881 or nnguyen@sd62.bc.ca

Donation of buttons needed – Our Home Economics Department is looking for any, and all, buttons you may have that would help make student projects even more awesome! If every student brought just one we would have 477 buttons! Thank you to those who have sent some in already.
