Journey students and staff will be busy this week and just about everything seems to be happening on Wednesday!
Terry Fox Run – In the morning all students and staff will participate in the Terry Fox Run. Our goal, like Terry’s, is to raise $1 per student and staff member. Terry Fox is truly a Canadian Hero and if past years’ donations are any indication we will definitely surpass that goal. Tax receipts are available for donations over $20 and cheques can be made out to: The Terry Fox Foundation. Volunteers are needed to supervise stations along the way – please leave your name at the office or email Mr. Bedard at gbedard@sd62.bc.ca.
Cops for Cancer/Tour de Rock – All schools are participating in the annual Tour de Rock celebration by standing on the road with signs and cheering on the riders as they roll into Sooke. Saseenos and EMCS students will line Sooke Road and then riders will turn right up Charters at 1:53 pm to be welcomed by Journey and then Poirier along Throup and Sooke along Church. The riders will finish their Sooke visit at John Muir Elementary at 2:01 pm! We will have a head shaving event at Journey at 11:30 am before they arrive. Families are welcome to attend.
Family Fall Gathering – Families are welcome to our annual Aboriginal Family Fall Gathering at John Muir Elementary from 5-7 pm. Come and enjoy complimentary salmon dinner, traditional teas, soap berry ice-cream, friendship dance and much more.
PAC lunch – Today pizza will be for sale in the foyer for $3.00 per slice along with drinks and snacks. Line up when the lunch bell rings.
Chess Club – We welcome new staff member Mr. Bryan who started here on Wednesday and immediately began to organize a Journey Chess Club. Go to the Project Room (next to the main computer lab) during lunch if you are interested in joining.
Thursday – Competitive Mindstorm Robotics Club meets for the first time this year afterschool from 3:05-4:15 in the Project Room (next to the main computer lab).
Friday – we have a performance by local mime and motivation speaker Mr. Trent Arterberry. He will be performing for the whole school beginning at 1 pm. Well-behaved families are welcome to attend.
Donation of buttons needed – Our Home Economics Department is looking for any, and all, buttons you may have that would help make student projects even more awesome! If every student brought just one we would have 477 buttons! Thank you.
