Home / School News / Last Week @ Journey (for this school year)

National Indigenous Peoples Day is today, June 21 and we are proud to be recognising and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First NationsInuit and Métis Indigenous peoples of Canada.

Welcome to the last official week of school!  Thank you for your patience, support, and flexibility especially over the last three months.

Yearbooks – although we had been given assurances that we would have yearbooks ready this week, our publisher has given us the news that it looks more like the middle/end of July.  We will contact you when they arrive and have times you can stop by and pick them up.

This week we will celebrate our grade 8 students who are on their way to secondary school with a drive-through celebration and end the week with a tribute to two teachers who have dedicated most of their teaching careers to the students of Journey.  Mrs. Jill Fader, our librarian and historian has been here since the doors opened and helped create our award-winning Musical Theatre Program.  Mr. Roald Kovacik, our French Immersion stalwart and Mountain Bike Expert, has enriched us with his talent for languages and sense of humour. Both will be missed by students and staff.

We have begun planning for September and have hired three new staff members.  We welcome teachers: Ms. Amanda MacLean (partnering with Ms. Laurie Gitzel), Mr. Matthew Tran (Gr. 6/7 French), and Ms. Nicole Wallace (librarian).  Unfortunately for us we have to say goodbye to staff members: Ms. Sherri Savoie, Mr. Kyle Long, Mr. Todd Kilpatrick, Ms. Natasha Walsh, Ms. Angela Young, and Ms. Marina McClintock.  We thank them for their service and wish them well at their new schools.

Thank you to our PAC for supporting us through the entire year!  We greatly appreciate your support.
