Thanks to all the families who came to our Meet the Teacher Evening last Wednesday. Congratulations to the Harris Family on being the lucky winners of the Chromebook Door Prize!

Exploratory – Notices will be coming home to students this week regarding exploratory fees. These would be for students who did not get into their first exploratory (all first choices were paid on day of sign up). These fees are used for consumable items such as supplies, groceries, busing etc. We always offer programs that do not include a fee and if there is financial hardship families can send a request to have fees waived by emailing the principal at lszadkowski@sd62.bc.ca (as indicated on exploratory sign up form). Please have these fees paid to the office (cash or cheque made out to SD62)

Cops for Cancer/Tour de Rock – This year Journey is honoured to welcome the Tour de Rock Riders when they pedal into Sooke on October 3. The riders are scheduled to arrive at 2:19 and we are raising money in various ways to support this fantastic cause. Our most popular is the “head shave”. So far we have grade 8 student Gavin M. and grade six teacher Mr. McLeod collecting pledges! Both have their mother’s permission and if your child wants to join in they will need a parent to sign off too! Everyone is invited to come to the gym Oct. 3!

Thursday

Grade 8 Beach Day at Mystic Beach all day. Be prepared for a hike, bring appropriate clothing for the weather and its variability, and food and water for the day.

Friday

Orange Shirt Day – all students and staff are encouraged to wear orange to promote “Every Child Matters”.  Why Orange Shirts? Orange Shirt Day is a legacy of the St. Joseph Mission (SJM) residential school commemoration event held in Williams Lake, BC, Canada, in the spring of 2013.  It grew out of Phyllis’ story of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of school at the Mission, and it has become an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually.

Exploratory Fees – due today for students who got into their second, third or fourth choice.
