Our first full day of the new school year is complete!  Students are adjusting to their new teachers and classmates and it’s wonderful to hear the sound of children’s laughter in the hallways.  Our FAST rotations began today and every class had the opportunity to discover their first rotation (Art, Food/Sewing, Young Entrepreneurs, Voices/Music, Woodshop and Tech).  Our Woodshop has a few more details to work out, but we should be up and sawing soon!

Temporary bus passes were issued today for all students who have registered for the school bus.  Please contact our school office if your child did not receive their bus pass.

School Supplies can be brought to school if they haven’t already.  Lockers will be assigned tomorrow (decorating your locker we ask that students use magnets, but no stickers).  Remind your child to keep their combination a closely guarded secret!  Best friends can change over time.

Cell phones are not a necessity of life for middle school students; however, if they are brought to school it is at the owner’s own risk.  Staff have the option to use cell phones as a learning tool in the classroom or not.  Please help your child by not texting them during class time.  If a student is using their phone in a way that takes away from their learning, or the learning of others, they may be asked to hand it in at the office each morning or not bring it to school.

Communication between school and home is important and we now have new Journey App! Students and parents can download it to stay current with announcements, school news and individual teams/clubs. Instructions available here: https://journey.appazur.com/help/flyer

Students have taken home their envelopes with student consent form and there are also forms online (our goal is to have them all online, but until then please complete the paper and online consents)  Go to https://consent.sd62.bc.ca/apps/OnlineConsent .   Annual consents need to be redone each school year, perpetual consents are valid as long as the student remains enrolled in Sooke School District. When you log in to the portal, if you have already provided consent for the perpetual items, they will show as checked, and the annual items will show as unchecked. We have listed the consents and if they are annual or perpetual for your information below.

  1. Media Consent (annual)
  2. Internet Access Consent (annual)
  3. General Consent for School Fieldtrips/Activities (annual)
  4. School Cash Online Consent (perpetual)
  5. Google Apps for Education Consent (perpetual)
  6. Aboriginal Education Information and Self-Identification (annual)
  7. MyBlueprint Consent (perpetual)

Please have all forms completed by September 14 (post-dated cheques for October 1 for athletics, yearbook and/or munch cards are accepted).  If you need assistance, please contact our secretary, Gina Thompson or our clerk, Sandy Hull and they will be happy to help you.
