Congratulations – The following students represented our school well in the Remembrance Day poetry and poster contests sponsored by the Sooke Legion:

Intermediate Colour Poster: 1st – Sophia AH., 2nd – Shona T.; 3rd – Lily S.

Intermediate Poem: 1st – Mindalynn F.; 2nd – Serena H.; 3rd – Olivia C.

Junior Poem: 1st – Katerina S. (Katerina was also a winner at the Regional level)

Legion member, Mr. Ron Larsen, presented the certificates and cash awards and explained that with over 140 entries the Legion members found judging difficult and time consuming! He congratulated and thanked all who entered. Mr. Bryan would like to point out that most were in his Dragon’s Den Writing Club!

Football Fever – Merci to Scott and Nathan from the Sooke Seahawks for coming to our assembly last week. Lots of interest in joining the team and the many footballs and t-shirts given away were much appreciated. Information is available in the office or https://www.sookeseahawks.com

Royals Hockey – it was great to see so many of our students at “District Day with the Victoria Royals” on Friday evening. So many attended from SD62 they had to open up another section!

Anxiety Presentation – Thank you to all the parents and staff who attended the Anxiety presentation last Wednesday. Dr. Kristen Buhr provided practical strategies to help both parents and educators.

Thank you – Divisions 8 & 12 want to pass on a huge thank you to the staff at SEAPARC for making their Thursday afternoon swim fun and memorable.

Monday

FSA – All grade 7 students will begin writing the Foundation Skills Assessment over the next two weeks. Students may be exempt from this assessment if they have submitted a letter to the principal. More information about these assessments can be found at https://www.bced.gov.bc.ca/assessment/fsa/

Dragon’s Den Creative Writing Club at lunch in Main Computer Lab

Spaghetti in a Big Red Cup – pre-orders for Friday’s $5 lunch go on sale today and are available until Thursday.

Volleyball Practice – Grade 6/7 boys after school from 3-4pm

Tuesday – Ground Hog Day!

Culture Club today in the Kitchen at lunch. Today is beading and sewing – everyone is welcome.

Student Council Meeting – today at lunch in Mme. Abell’s classroom.

EMCS Presentation – EMCS councellor, Mr. Al Phipps will be talking to Ms. Wiens and Ms. Barnes classes today about what EMCS has to offer.

Field Trip – Ms. Johnston’s class & students enrolled in Life Skills go to BC Museum for Box of Treasures today from 9-1:00.

Volleyball Practice – Grade 6/7 boys practice @ lunch today

Volleyball Game – Jr. Girls’ volleyball game #2 at Arbutus after school today – good luck girls!

Wednesday

Chess Club – The Journey Chess Club meets today in the Project Room at lunch with Mr. Bryan.

PAC Food Day – Pizza today. Drinks and other goodies also for sale

Sumo-Bot Club meets afterschool at EMCS today.

Jr. Girls’ Volleyball practice afterschool today until 4 pm

Homework Club for Divs. 8 & 12 @ lunch rm. # 1166

Ski Trip Parent Meeting – This is a mandatory meeting for parents of students going skiing February 16. Waiver forms can only be given out after a face-to-face meeting. The meeting should only take 15 minutes and will start promptly at 7 pm.

Harmony Project Parent Meeting – Please join us tonight at 7 pm in the library for information regarding the award winning Harmony Project that is now being offered in Sooke. Students in grades 2 & 3 are eligible to receive free Strings lessons and the use of an instrument free of charge for the next two years. Students at Journey can join Drumline and also receive free lessons. Find out more about his amazing opportunity by contacting Ms. Lorna Bjorklund at lbjorklund@sd62.bc.ca.

Jazz Band meets today at 8:15 am in the Band Room

Volleyball Jamboree – Our Grade 6/7 Volleyball Team hosts several other schools today afterschool from 3-6 pm. Come out and cheer our Dragons on!

Mindstorm Robotics Club – after school today

Friday

Spaghetti in a Big Red Cup – $5 gets you a heaping cup of spaghetti and a warm piece of garlic bread. Students can choose from pasta, spaghetti sauce, butter, cheese or choose all 4! We had a few delays last time, but we’ve got it all figured out now!

Happy Family Day Long Weekend – We’ll see everyone back on Tuesday
