Public Health Nurses will be providing follow up immunizations for those eligible Grade 6 students that we have had consents returned for. Consents went home in the fall and first doses of HPV were given in November. Those students that are eligible for their second HPV immunization will be seen on May 24th, 2023 at the school. If you have questions about these immunizations or would like to provide consent for HPV if you have not yet done so, please call the Sooke health unit and speak with a public health nurse at 250-519-3487.

While preparatory site works are completed on Charters Road, a 9am to 2pm road closure will be in effect for most of next week. The works have been scheduled to minimize disruption for the school commute; however, delays are expected.

The ultimate road build-out will include significant restructuring and the addition of sidewalks and bike lanes on both sides of the road. This is an exciting and much-needed community project. Realizing this project will require some patience during construction. In advance, I am grateful for your assistance in helping inform our community so that families can appropriately plan their travels.

Please find the related public notice on the district’s website here:

Preparatory Site Works to Begin on Charters Road Corridor Project: Road Closure in Effect (sooke.ca)

In short:

  • The work will be completed in phases.
  • Phase 1 preparatory site works include tree removals and, as a result, the road will be closed from 9am-2pm after the bird survey is completed to ensure public safety. This work is likely to begin mid-day on Monday, May 8th. We hope this phase of work will be completed by 2pm on Thursday, May 11.
    • The District is committed to maintaining its municipal tree canopy. At least 40 trees will be planted elsewhere in the community later this year as some trees will need to be removed for this project to proceed.
  • Local area residents will be permitted access in and out of their properties when the road is closed to the general public as directed by traffic control personnel.
  • The closure times have been scheduled to minimize the impact on those travelling to/from school.
  • Throughout the project, best efforts will be made to minimize disruption to the public; however, delays are expected while this important work is completed.
  • Once project tenders are reviewed and the tender is awarded, a preliminary project schedule will be made available. At this time, additional information on project timelines is not known.
