Our school is dedicated to honouring and involving the Aboriginal people of Canada. At Journey Middle School we have over one hundred students who identify as Aboriginal, this is a huge success for our community! Our purpose is to provide all students with a deeper understanding of the Coast Salish Territory on which our school resides, specifically the T’Souke and SCIA’NEW Nations, as well as the Pacheedaht Nation, who are part of the Nuu- chah-nulth Tribal Council.
We invite presenters into our classrooms who speak on traditional knowledge and important current events. Students are involved in a variety of educational activities that centre on Indigenous ways of knowing. The support and cultural programs that we provide are in classrooms so that all Journey students can learn together. Throughout the year there are also various field trips and school activities that celebrate the rich history of local Indigenous Nations. We provide locally sourced tea for students to start the day. Thank you for your interest in our department, please revisit the website to see more photos of activities throughout the year.
