A reminder that Monday, September 19 is a non-instructional day for students.
Field Trips – All grade six classes have a field trip on Tuesday and all grade eight classes on Wednesday.
Meet the Teacher Evening – Come and meet this year’s staff. Teachers will be in their classrooms from 7-7:30 pm and then everyone is welcome to come to the gym and meet everyone from 7:30-8 pm. Door prizes drawn at 8.
Exploratories – one of the best things about going to Journey! Exploratory sign up is an exciting and sometimes confusing time. Here is a timeline of what will be happening over the next few weeks as we try our best to get 541 students into 24 different, mixed-grade, exploratories:
- Friday, September 23 – Exploratory Forms will be going home. Please go over the options with your child and help them choose their top three choices. For most exploratories there is no cost involved. Some do have a cost to cover consumables (ie. Kids baking) or facility cost (ie. SEAPARC) or the cost of materials for a project the student can take home (ie. Woodwork).
- Monday, September 26 – Signed forms, with the money to cover the cost of the first choice exploratory will be accepted beginning in the foyer. We will not accept the forms early than 8 am Monday morning to allow all students the opportunity to go over the forms carefully with their parent/guardian. Space is limited in some exploratories so your money will be refunded if your child is not placed in that exploratory and alternatively your child will need to bring in the funds before the first exploratory if their second or third choice has a cost.
- Friday, September 30 Students find out their exploratory
- Monday, October 3 – signed waivers, if needed (ie. Skateboarding) need to be into the office and outstanding fees need to be into the office.
- Thursday, October 6 – Exploratories begin!
Weekly Update from PAC: Thank you to all who came out for our first PAC meeting of the year. It’s always great to see new faces. I would like to welcome our new council members, Justine D –President, Erika M- Secretary, Laura V- Treasurer, Neil F- Vice President, Teresa M- Past President and Ken D- Food services.
PAC Lunch: The first PAC lunch of the year is Wednesday Sept. 21. We will be serving Subway for $3.50 as well as a variety of snacks and beverages from $.50-$1.50.
We are always looking for lunch volunteers. If you have one hour a month to help out on Wednesdays please email Ken D pacdad2@gmail.com
Fundraising: Save Around coupon books will be coming home in your child backpack in a couple of weeks. There is over $5000 dollars in savings, something for everyone. They make great gifts! All funds raised go back to the students. Please return any unsold books to the school.
SPEAC: The first SPEAC meeting of the year is Wednesday Sept. 21st at 7:00 pm at the School Board Office on Jacklin Rd.
