Congratulations to all our students who “reached for the stars” and participated in and/or competed in the Jr. Skill Completion at Camosun College on Friday. A special mention to Ms. Nadeau and Brittany’s classes for trying out new skills and throughout the day always demonstrating respectful behaviour and willingness to try new things. Way to put yourselves out there – Rowan, Philip, Luis, Kairi, Abby Ryana, Noah, Jeremy, Kadence, Lenny, Cooper, Griffin, Simon, Calvin, Liam, Jaden, Hendy, and Matt and competed against schools from Saanich, Victoria and Sooke Districts. Abby, Griffin and Matt brought home GOLD in Robotics and Ryana, Calvin, and Liam’s team brought home SILVER in the Wind Turbine completion.
Also on Friday our Grade 8 hockey academy students played in front of a packed house at SEAPARC. It was a close game and all who attended had fun. We are very proud of the way all our students and staff “invested in people!” The money spent at the concession will keep SEAPARC going for another year.

Boys and Girls Club of Greater Victoria is pleased to be able to offer parenting programs in Sooke! Our 10 week programs for parents of teens and preteens beginning in April. Programs are affordable, inclusive, and follow an evidenced-based curriculum. Professionally facilitated, BGC programs are a great mix of parent education and group support for parents of preteens and teens. Many parents who reach out for support feel guilty, blamed by others, isolated, and unsure about what to do. BGC Parenting Programs can help parents address these feelings in a confidential, non-judgmental group setting. The content is based on research and presented with a trauma informed lens. All of the programs cover a variety of age appropriate topics including: adolescent brain development, empathetic communication, boundaries, substance use, technology use, the relationship bond (or the parent/child connection), self-care, etc.
Parenting Without Power Struggles: 10 week program for parents of preteens (ages 9-12). The cost of this program is $60 per person or $90 per couple which includes the manual. Subsidies available upon inquiry. Wednesdays April 15th to June 17th , 2020 6:30 – 8:30pm @ Journey Middle School Library OR *Daytime!* Wednesdays April 15th to June 17th , 2020 9:30 – 11:30am @ TD Bank in the Boardroom
Parents In The Know: 10 week program for parents of teens (ages 13-21). The cost of this program is $60 per person or $90 per couple which includes the manual. Subsidies available upon inquiry. Tuesdays April 7th – June 16th , 2020 6:30 – 8:30pm @ Edward Milne Community School
Since these programs are only 10 weeks we ask participants to commit to attending each week. Intakes are closed after the second week.
Sponsor-a-parent program which allows us to provide some flexibility on the costs. We work within the families’ needs and encourage participants to either space out payments or make a minimum so that we can offer that subsidy to as many families in need as possible. Programs are centered around the comfort of our participants and we pride ourselves on doing that from the first contact to the last class! Parents rave about our programs and many have expressed that our group is their weekly self-care and it has built community for them as they do this very good and yet challenging work – raising kids/preteens/teens/adults!
