Staffing Update for 2019-2020 School year – Journey will have some changes to our staff for the upcoming year. What we know so far: Ms. Millen, who is our Vice-Principal, and Principal for six months, is pleased to be moving to one of our SPEDLA (Student Support) positions.  Journey welcomes Ms. K. Abell, currently grade 8 teacher and acting VP for six months, to her new position as Vice-Principal for 2019-20.  We welcome Mr. J. Shorey and Ms. J. Crow to the SPEDLA team as well. We are thankful for the time and expertise Ms. Murphy, Mr. Hart and Mr. Pelley have spent in that position and wish them well in their new schools. We also are saying Merci and Goodbye to Ms. Birtwistle who joined us this year teaching grade 8, and Ms. Campbell, our school counsellor, who will be working at different schools in our District next year. New to our school in French Immersion is Ms. S. Munro. Staffing is not yet complete and we will keep you updated over the next several weeks.

Band – There has been a change in how the District is staffing our Band Program next year. Band students will now be part of the FAST rotation fulltime. For the last six years we have had the Band come out for one block of FAST and a mutually agreed upon block at another time. Next year, students will have the opportunity to go to Band three times per week; however, they will NOT be able to schedule: Foods; Wood; Music; Drama; or Art. This is a significant change in scheduling and students/families need to know that they will be required to stay in Band for the school year if they choose Band. To recap – Band will continue at Journey, but students in Band will not be in the FAST rotation.

Social Media – please remind your child to be respectful and safe when using their electronic devices. We have had a surge in students reporting mean and bullying behaviour and we need your support to help young minds navigate this form of communication. Several classes have “no phone policies” in place and the topic of a “no phone/electronic devices for the school” is on the agenda for the next PAC Meeting.

Ball Gloves? – Thank you for the donations so far! We are still collecting donations of ball gloves for our PE program. All donations gratefully accepted.
