School Info:

Thank-you to Coast Capital, Browns Brothers, Jackie Jones, Cathy’s Corner Café and Barry Whiting for their donations over the holiday season!

Explo 2019:  Journey staff are planning a day of a special events day for Journey students on Tuesday, February 12th.  This Thursday, during Advisory block, students will be given the opportunity to choose between 3 different options for the day:  Choice A: a Grade 8 Ski Trip to Mount Washington,  Choice B: a Grade 6/7 Vancouver Trip (Science World and Imax), or Choice C: an all-day school-based exploratory open to ALL grades.

The costs for these activities are as follows:

A.  Grade 8 Ski Trip:  $100 (with own equipment) and $120 (if rentals are needed); Parent attendance at an information meeting (date: TBA) will also be needed for this selection

B. Grade 6/7 Vancouver Trip: $80 (To be confirmed) and a separate permission form will need to be signed

C. All-Day Exploratory:  fees range from $0-$27

For those students who choose Option C:  All-Day Exploratory offerings will be posted for students in the foyer from Monday, January 7th – Wednesday, January 9th so that they will be ready to indicate their top 5 choices on Thursday morning.  Please note that EXPLO 2019 forms will not be coming home, but will be collected by classroom teachers during Thursday’s advisory block.  It might be helpful to have a conversation ahead of time about what your child’s “budget” is for their selections.  Also, priority for placement will be based on grade level, with Grade 8 students having first choice of exploratory.  *Fees and waiver forms will be collected on Friday, January 18th.

Term 2 Exploratories:   The weekly exploratory program for Term 2 will run  on Thursdays from January 31st-March 14th.   Forms for the Term 2 Exploratory Program will be going home with students on Friday, January 11th.  Forms will start being collected at 7:45am on Monday, January 14th.  As in previous terms, exploratory placement is done in order that the forms are received, with the exception of those exploratories with prerequisites (Yearbook and Rock n’ Roll).  Forms will need to be handed into Ms. Campbell no later than January 16th.

Grade 8 Ski Trip – If your child is in Grade 8 and they would like to go on the Ski Trip this year, please ask your child for the permission form and sign and send it in along with payment this week. Please also make sure to read the information package that will come home after you send in your permission form and attend the mandatory parent meeting on Tuesday, January 15th at 6pm. We may need some parent volunteers as well and please indicate if you are interested in being a volunteer. Thanks and see you on the slopes! Students not going on the ski trip will be joining in on the All-Day Exploratory planned at the school for the same day, Tuesday, Feb. 12th.

Community Info

EMCS OPEN HOUSE is scheduled for Thursday, January 24th from 6:00 to 7:30.  We showcase the courses, programs, clubs, sports, and other opportunities available at EMCS. While the Open House is available to all grades, and community members, attendance is especially important for next year’s grade 9’s and their parents.  They will have an opportunity to explore the school, meet the teachers, counselors, and administrators, listen to course, club, program, and team descriptions, ask questions, and view student products from our many academic and elective courses.  The information gleaned from the Open House will help prospective grad 9’s make their very best academic, elective, and extra-curricular choices for the coming year. We look forward to seeing  all of Journey’s grade 8’s and their parents on January 24th!
