Community News:

Journey is hosting the Blood Donor Clinic on Monday from 12-6 p.m. This time of year is always busy, but also a time when the blood bank can run low. Please sign up online or drop by the school gym to donate. We look forward to welcoming you to our school and give a gift that priceless, but costs nothing but a little time. Thank you.

School News:

Investing in People: Our annual Food Fight brought in just shy of 3000 items of food for the Sooke Food Bank and just over $500 in cash. Thank you to all the families that contributed and to Ms.Robirtis/Mrs. Gitzel’s class for bringing in over 700 of those items from just their class. Mrs. Lennox class raised $463.33 in donations to the Food Bank and another $463.33 to help community members that struggle to find a safe home each day. We hope our efforts make someone else’s holiday better.

Grade 8 Information for the Red Leaf Exchange program. 2019-20 is the first year SD62 had a student participate in this exchange. A student from Royal Bay hosted a Spanish student this fall, and she (the Canadian student) will be heading to Spain in the Spring. This opportunity is suitable for students in Grades 9 or 10 so we want to let our current grade 8 students have the opportunity to participate. More information available at:

Families of grade 8 students are invited to EMCS for their Open House January 22, 2020 6-7:30 p.m. to learn more about what’s available for students next year. Course selection will begin in January for their grade 9 year.

Staffing Update: Grade 8 teacher, Mr. D. Sulzen, has been away due to a family matter and we thank Ms. M. McClintock for her dedication teaching in Division 1 while he has been away. We are hoping to have him return when we come back in January and will keep parents updated. Our front office clerk, Mrs. S. Hull, will be returning in January and we thank Mrs. B. Crocker for cheerfully taking on the job until her return.
