Community News: Homestay West has asked us to pass on the following information. (Contact Ayla Seyedmortazavi, Manager, Homestay West.  aseyedmortazavi@mliesl.com or 778-229-2547. We are bringing a group of 118 Japanese International Highschool students to the Sooke/Langford area within Greater Victoria and we are in an urgent need of families who could host the students for 5 nights.  Students will be coming October 25 to 30th, and each requires his/her own homestay experience for 5 sleeps.  So, we are in urgent need of host families. Half of the group will attend Belmont Secondary School in Langford and the others will attend Edward Milne Community School in Sooke.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO FIND HOSTS FOR THE EDWARD MILNE SCHOOL GROUP OF 60:

  • Families are paid an honorarium of $225 for hosting 1 student for 5 nights – October 25 – 30, 2019
  • Each host will be their “home away from home” for this special trip to Canada.
  • Families are encouraged to share their “typical daily life” and invite their Japanese students to join into simple family activities – walking the dog, grocery shopping, playing soccer in the back yard, attending hockey practises, watching the stars from the beach at night, making cookies, playing cards….and enjoying meals together.
  • Families will be invited to join into a Welcome Ceremony at school on the arrival day as well as a Farewell Gathering on October 29th: The students from Japan will share some presentations, dances and songs in appreciation of their special days in our community.

We do greatly appreciate your help.  Journey Middle School will receive a $40 fundraiser for every family who is secured through this campaign from Today until October 10th.  We have a 2 week runway to find our families and raise some needed dollars for the school.

PAC News:

Currently PAC has a Jerky Fundraiser happening. Your child should have brought home a form for this delicious fundraiser for our school.
