Peanuts/Nuts – Journey has several students who have an severe allergy to nuts. Although it would be impossible to be able to claim we are completely nut free, we do ask that you are sensitive to the food you send in your child’s lunch/snacks. All classes that have students with this allergy have been notified by the classroom teacher. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.

Reminders:  Please remind your child not to use their phones between our morning and school leaving bell. Staff and parents have been reporting positive results and most students are finding it easier than they thought!

Also a reminder that taking pictures or videoing students is not permitted. This is especially important regarding altercations and then sharing with others. Students should not be subjected to further humiliation and we always report incidents to our Safer Schools Coordinator and we work closely with our local RCMP.

Terry Fox Run – Congratulations to all of our runners and walkers. Terry would be very proud.

Monday

Today is Orange Shirt Day, a day to commemorate Residential School survivors and show every child matters.  Journey is marking Orange Shirt Day in several ways:

  • flying an orange flag, signed by staff and students
  • participating in Kindness Rocks, where students have written kind and welcoming messages on orange rocks that are placed around the school and community.
  • students and staff are invited to wear orange shirts
  • Aboriginal Education staff have visited 10 classes, sharing the message of Orange Shirt Day

Individual Photo Day – every student will have their photo taken and the option to purchase a variety of packages (these have gone home with students last week). Students will have the opportunity to change for their picture if they are wearing orange shirts.

All donations from the Terry Fox Run/Fox Fest Activities will be totalled today and announced. Students can hand in all donations into their classroom teacher.

Exploratories get posted on the wall in the foyer today. Some need waivers so get those handed in asap. If you haven’t signed up, please see Ms. Yarchuk immediately.
