Journey Middle School’s Vision – “People Run to be Here!”

On Tuesday, September 4 we will open our doors and welcome students from grades 6-8 from East Sooke to Port Renfrew. Staff have been busy getting ready for students. Our Foods Room and Woodshop have been renovated; however, the portable will hopefully be out of the parking lot, but not quite ready for the first day. There are new soccer balls, volleyball nets and floor hockey sticks in the gym. The desks are neatly arranged, the floors are shining and many field trips have already organized. Most importantly there is an entire staff ready to begin a new year with our students. Now all we need is the 522 registered students to begin Journey’s 26th year!

The first day of school begins at 8:40 a.m. and students will be dismissed at 11:58 a.m. Do not bring school supplies on the first day.

Buses will run in the morning and for early dismissal. Regular times will begin Wednesday. If you have not registered your child please fill out the form on the Sooke School District website www.sd62.bc.ca and/or phone the School Board Office at 250-474-9800. If you are dropping off your child please remember to use the student drop off area (parking lot) and not the bus lane. For everyone’s safety, please park in designated parking spaces only. Dropping students off at the ballpark and having them walk in reduces traffic congestion and saves parents time too.

Class lists will be posted on the windows outside the main entrance. Staff will also be available to help students find their name on the lists and classrooms. All grade six students will meet in the Gym and all grade 7 & 8 students will go directly to their new classroom once the bell rings. Parents of grade six students are welcome to wait in the gym with their child until their child leaves for their new classroom.

We will have recess on the first day so please remember to send a snack (students seem to be exceptionally hungry during the first week back to school). Students will not be eating lunch at school Tuesday.

We use our website to keep busy families as up-to-date as possible and this year will be adding an App (more information coming in September). We try to send as little paper home as possible and most of forms will be available on our website.

We will end our week with a BBQ and Welcoming Assembly on Friday, September 14. Enjoy the last few days of summer holidays and see you Tuesday, September 4.
