Save the date, and your bottles!

The Journey Middle School PAC will be having a bottle drive on Saturday, February 10, from 9:00-1:00 on Sooke Road under the SEAPARC sign. If you’re not sure what to do with all those empties after Superbowl Sunday, we’d be happy to take them off your hands!  If you are available to help out that day, please e-mail journeymiddleschoolpac@gmail.com with your contact info and availability.  Thanks!

Artstart Grant News from Ms. Gitzel:

Hurrah! Journey Middle School received an Artstarts grant for Trent Arterberry to be the artist in residence for the month of January and the first week in February. We are delighted that Trent Arterberry will be teaching performance art to two grade seven classes. The theme of the project is called, Innovation. Breakthrough. Transformation. Inspiration. Revolution. Trent describes the project as follows:

“Innovation is at the heart of the human spirit. Innovation is the process by which society advances, progresses and changes. Grade seven students will study the histories of great innovators and bring their stories to life on stage.

Human beings are naturally curious and creative. Through stories about imagination, persistence and problem-solving, grade seven students will explore and express the value of innovation. The theme of invention and originality runs through all aspects of human endeavor: science, art, fashion, commerce, communication, transportation and so on. Not only does innovation better people’s lives, but problem-solving can be fun!

Students will study examples of how innovation has changed the world and continues to deliver the future. The struggles of great thinkers like Albert Einstein will be studied to learn about human nature – what common qualities do innovators have? As students learn about the challenges of being a creative thinker, they will learn about the core competencies of persistence and self-awareness.

This background knowledge will inform the plays that they create and stage. Seventh graders will develop characters, memorize lines, learn choreography and present their work to elementary students, their peers and their families.”

Pizza Lunch Day @ lunch $3.50 per slice. Cash and munch cards accepted. Munch cards available in the office for $20

Wrestling Club @ lunch today in the Multi-Purpose Room. New members welcome and wear PE strip. 

Thursday

First Term Recognition Assembly today at 1:30 pm. All grade 6-8 students are eligible to earn an Effort Certificate and grade eight students are eligible to earn an Honour Role certificate.

Friday  

Wrestling Club @ lunch today in the Multi-Purpose Room. New members welcome and wear PE strip.
